Scott is Senior Partner and Managing Attorney at Barbur Law. Scott works from both the Milwaukie and Tillamook office locations.
Scott practices in Probate and Trust Administration, handling estates both large and small. He has extensive experience working with executors and trustees to administer the assets of deceased persons and distribute them to estate beneficiaries. He enjoys working closely with his clients and helping them “get from point A to point B.” Scott also practices in Real Property and Business, helping his clients competently and effectively manage their assets. With a keen eye for maps and a background in urban planning, Scott is well-equipped to assist clients with Real Property issues. His practice areas include easements, lot line adjustments, purchase and sale contracts (including farm sales and acquisitions), and financing securities, including promissory notes, trust deeds, and land sale contracts. In Business, Scott assists clients with start-ups, contracts, leases, and other business needs.
A sixth-generation Oregonian, Scott was born in Portland and grew up in Milwaukie, where he graduated from Rex Putnam High School. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Geography from Portland State University, he considered a career in urban planning, but ultimately, Scott decided to attend law school and earned his Juris Doctorate from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2011. Shortly thereafter, he started Barbur Law in January 2012 as a general practice and worked in many areas of the law before settling the firm into its current niche of estate planning, probate, and trust administration; real property; and business.
Scott is a board member of the Milwaukie Community Center Foundation (formerly Friends of the Milwaukie Center), acting as Chair from 2019-2022, which raises funds to support programs and services for seniors of the Milwaukie Center. He also previously served on the Milwaukie Planning Commission from 2013-2017 and the Milwaukie Rotary Club, serving as President from 2014-2015. Additionally,
Scott is an active business member of the local Chambers of Commerce in Clackamas County and Tillamook. He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying activities including hiking, camping, and mountain climbing, and loves to spend time with his wife, Vicky, and two dogs, Tobey and Daisy.
Laura is Partner at Barbur Law and Managing Attorney of the firm’s Tillamook office.
Laura primarily practices in Estate Planning and has extensive experience preparing basic to complex estate planning documents, including Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorneys, Advance Directives, and more. Highly adept at working with people and with a keen eye for detail, Laura enjoys the process of getting to know her clients and takes pride in drafting high-quality documents tailored to each client’s individual needs. Laura also specializes in Probate and Trust Administration, where she represents executors and assists them with handling the estates of their loved ones with a personal touch. Laura’s other practice areas include Guardianships, where she works with clients to gain proper authority to manage the care of their loved ones, and Contracts, where she handles business and real property transactions both large and small.
Laura is a native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Lincoln High School. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Social Sciences from Portland State University, she earned her Juris Doctorate at Pepperdine School of Law in Malibu, California, where her favorite class was Contracts. She also holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine’s Straus Institute.
Laura enjoys giving back to the community and is an active volunteer with the Tillamook Rotary Club and a business member of the Tillamook Chamber of Commerce. An avid “foodie,” Laura can often be found touring the restaurants of Tillamook County where she has a particular affinity for local seafood. A lover of nature and animals, Laura enjoys spending time outdoors, from hiking to paddle boarding and unwinding with her cat, Malibu.
Eric is an Associate Attorney practicing out of the Milwaukie office.
Eric is the Estate Planning attorney for the firm’s Milwaukie location. He also practices in Probate and Trust Administration and Guardianships and Conservatorships. He enjoys working closely with his clients, creating strong relationships and rapport, and using his personable nature to individualize client experiences and assist each one according to their needs. A meticulous drafter, he has extensive experience helping clients to prepare basic to complex Wills, Revocable Living Trusts, and other estate planning documents, including Power of Attorneys and Advance Directives. Eric additionally practices in Business law where he works with individuals, couples, families, and friends to organize start-ups and prepare contracts.
Eric grew up in Orange County, California, and graduated from UC-Irvine with a degree in Political Science, before moving to the Portland metro area to attend Lewis & Clark Law School. After earning his Juris Doctorate degree, he worked as a sole practitioner for four years before joining Barbur Law in 2021.
Eric is active with the Milwaukie Rotary Club where he takes part in many volunteer services in and around the community. He and his wife, Marcela, have three dogs, Archer, Andi, and Stotts, and are expecting their first child in early 2023. Outside of the office, Eric enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and dogs and watching and playing sports. Eric is an avid fan of the Portland Trail Blazers, San Francisco Giants, and San Francisco 49ers.
Amy is the Office Manager for both Barbur Law locations, working out of the Milwaukie office. She is also a Paralegal, primary assistant to attorney Scott Barbur, and a licensed notary.
Amy brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to the firm and wears many hats while filling her roles. As Office Manager, she manages the firm’s books and systems, keeps track of vendor contracts, and effortlessly keeps the place running. As a paralegal, she manages attorney Scott Barbur’s files, prepares probate accountings, and performs many other client-based tasks.
Amy started with the firm as a bookkeeper in 2020 and quickly worked her way through the ranks of legal assistant and assistant office manager into her current position in October 2022. Prior to joining the firm, Amy worked as a bookkeeper in the promotional products industry and spent a decade working from home as a seamstress while raising her three wonderful children. Amy is a native Oregonian who grew up in Clackamas County and graduated from Barlow High School.
Daniel is the Legal Assistant for the Milwaukie office of Barbur Law and primary assistant to attorney Eric Smith. He also handles the phones and front office and is a licensed notary. His fun and professional demeanor creates a joyful experience for our clients. Daniel’s attention to detail and great ability to multitask make him an asset to our team.
Born and raised in Dallas, Oregon, Daniel is a graduate of Dallas High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Portland State University. With the intent of becoming a lawyer in the not-so-distant future, when he isn’t working Daniel is busy studying for the LSAT. He also enjoys sports, reading, cooking, history, and the company of Horace — his American Staffordshire Terrier.
At Barbur Law, Megan is a Jill-of-all-trades: she manages social media content, marketing efforts, and human resources for both offices, among other duties. Highly organized and energetic, Megan creates content for the firm’s Facebook page and oversees the firm’s marketing vendors, including local newspapers and church bulletins, to highlight the deeds, events, and activities of the firm and to keep it front and center in the community.
Megan grew up in Portland, Oregon, and currently resides in Tampa, Florida. In between coasts, she attended the Claremont Colleges and graduated from Scripps College with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature. Her love of the Spanish language has taken her from the jungles of Costa Rica to the boulevards of Madrid, Spain. Prior to joining the firm in 2020, Megan served as National Director of Estate and Gift Planning for the American Cancer Society and is no stranger to the value of estate planning. When she isn’t working or volunteering, Megan can be found cycling, mothering her two young children, and naming her rescue cats after snacks, thus far including Snickers and Cheetos.
In 2022, Vicky retired from her role as Barbur Law’s office manager which she assumed from 2017-2022. She now serves in a part-time role attending events as an ambassador of the firm and assisting with special projects.
During her time as office manager, Vicky was instrumental in helping the firm grow from a small, solo practice into a thriving multi-attorney practice with two locations. Vicky oversaw the expansion of the Milwaukie office and the opening and expansion of the Tillamook office, which she effortlessly guided with her adept skills as a project manager. She also headed efforts to digitize the office by spending endless hours scanning files, including those of attorneys Bill McDonald (Milwaukie) and Christian Hooley (Tillamook) which were assumed by the firm.
A creative and musical soul, you can find Vicky singing in her church choir or hula dancing in her Hālau. Vicky enjoys spending time with her husband, Scott, and two dogs, Tobey and Daisy. She is also a proud mom and “Mimsy” to her two daughters and four grandchildren.
